Featured Mayfair vendor: Two great institutions in downtown Yonkers teamed up to create five gourmet treats!
Westhab and Zuppa joined forces to create one variety of Westhab's six Top Chefs dried bean soup mixes.
Come by and sample Zuppa's fabulous soup and purchase some of these great mixes to support a great cause!

Top Chefs Soup  is a social enterprise of Westhab that produces gourmet dried bean soup mixes.  Westhab serves the poorest
citizens of Westchester County by providing housing for the homeless.  Westhab also recognizes the need to supplement housing with critical
long term employment training. The production workshop for Top ChefsSoup and childcare facilities are located at the shelter where the
employees live.  Westhab has been providing shelter to the homeless for some 25 years.
All the revenue dollars generated by Top Chefs Soup are reinvested back into the company so additional employees can be hired and trained---thus
giving more caring mothers the opportunity to better their lives and their families. Many who live in these shelters gain the necessary
working experience through the job training that  Westhab provides to go onto bigger and more meaningful employment opportunities. The cycle of
self-help continues and continues and continues. Our success rate hasjust been phenomenal and we want to ensure more of this success in the coming years.
And they taste great too!

Saturday, June 3rd - 8 AM - 2 PM: Bensidoun French Farmers Market opens in the downtown!

From our Y D/WBID Business owner John Fellin (Encore Catering at the Roosevelt Ballroom)

As you may know I am very involved with the New York State Restaurant Association Educational Foundation. The Foundation helps High School teenagers pursue a career in the hospitality industry. We work with High Schools and colleges around the state to develop a good broad based curriculum, we help the teens get scholarships, provide internship opportunities and career placement. Relax! For a change I am not asking for donations! Below is a link to GoodSearch.com. We all search the internet daily looking for websites, shopping, research, whatever. All you have to do is use GoodSearch.com powered by Yahoo! for all your internet searches and the Educational Foundation will receive funding based on the amount of searches. That's it! You can download the GoodSearch toolbar for Internet Explorer, enter in New York State Restaurant Association Educational Foundation as the charity you wish to support and begin searching! Every penny generated will help support the Foundation.
If you want you can cut and paste the charity name to make it easierNew York State Restaurant Association Educational Foundation
Please install this on every computer in your home and place of business. 1000 people doing 3 searches a day would yield over $10,000 dollars to the Educational Foundation.
It is a great way to support the Foundation without costing you a penny! Thanks for your help. If you have any questions feel free to email me.

Bike Rack Memorial for
Yonkers Bicycle Patrolman John Barsi
We have reached goal ! - thanks to a very generous donation from John's mother, the bike rack is ordered and in production!
Please keep your donations coming in for the installation and plaque!

A new bicycle rack will be placed on the Yonkers waterfront in memory of our recently deceased downtown bicycle patrolman
John Barsi.
John was an avid fisherman who loved the water and the Hudson River. Last summer, John jumped into the Hudson to save a woman from drowning. We plan to locate the rack close to the site of John's heroic rescue and found a custom rack in the shape of a fish.
DERO, the manufacturer of the racks, has generously offered us a 15% discount for John's bike rack. Please visit their website to see some of their great products.

We plan to add a plaque with John's badge number (306).
We are soliciting contributions for the bike rack which will cost about $4500 with shipping, installation and the plaque. All donations over that amount will be given to a scholarship fund for John's children.
Questions/info about contributing?
Please contact Joan Jennings at 914-557-1513
or email us - Please put "Barsi Bike Rack" in the
subject line. Thank you.

Letting our imaginations run, we can see obvious (and not so obvious) "faces" in rock formations - the most famous being the "Old Man of the Mountain" (right) in New Hampshire (which recently slid off the mountain) featured on that state's quarter.
A recent rockslide on the Palisades above Alpine is visible from the Yonkers waterfront.
At a recent meeting, two people mentioned that a rockslide in the same location just prior to World War II created "Hitler's Face" on the Palisades.
Eerily, another rock slide just after the War obliterated it.
After three queries about "Hitler's Face" on the Palisades in the last three days,
John Favareau of the Riverfront Library and the
Yonkers Historical Society located an old photograph of "Hitler's Face" which will be printed in an upcoming issue of "The Yonkers Historian."  Keep your eyes open for it!
