The Enrico Fermi Educational Fund, Inc. was chartered by the state of New York in 1964.   Michael Vitulli and 14 other civic-minded leaders of Italian-American heritage in Yonkers formed the Fund to extend financial aid to "high minded students" who wished to continue their education beyond high school.
The recipient of the Fermi Dental Award, given in memory of the late Dr. George Minervini, is selected by Columbia University/School of Oral and Dental Surgery.  The Fermi Foundation requires that the recipient have traceable Italian heritage. These awards will be presented at this year's Scholarship Breakfast on Sunday, May 7th, at 9:30 am at the Polish Community Center, 92 Waverly Street, Yonkers.  The Keynote speaker at this year's breakfast will be Assistant Secretary of the Navy Richard Greco, Jr.  Co-chairing this year�s breakfast are Sal Galasso and Mary Ann Liebowitz.  Tickets are $30.00 per person and are available by calling Dr. Marie-Elena Liotta at (914) 528-0780 or Anthony Maddalena at (914) 968-5644.

Con Edison Lunchtime Learning Series for Adults: Ecology Series 1:  What is an Estuary?

 Spend your lunch break at the River you love! Bring a bag lunch to the Beczak Center and find out what all the kids are raving about!  This is your chance to take part in the lunchtime adult-oriented versions of our interactive programs.  Our first program will utilize our unique Hudson River Estuary Model to begin answering the question, "What is an Estuary?"  Program participants will help us select the topics for the remaining sessions and these topics will be announced in the future. SMART (Students and Mature Adults Read Together) invites mature, literate, concerned adults to join us in the campaign to make our future better.  By helping kids improve in reading, writing and math, SMART volunteers help their students build the skills and the self-confidence to ultimately succeed in the adult world.  SMART provides all the training and support you will need.  We do not require teaching experience. Volunteering hours are flexible.  Free transportation to and from the school is available. Civil Air Patrol teaches cadets 12-21 years old aerospace education, emergency services, community involvement, leadership training all under military regulations, customs and courtesies. Active cadets even have the option of being behind airplane controls for 7 orientation flight lessons. The squadron will be housed at the PAL building at 127 North Broadway in Yonkers and we will be meeting every Wednesday from 7:00 to 9:30pm.  We have an orientation meeting on Wednesday, January 19, 2005 at 7:00pm for all interested prospective members. at St. Joseph's

Saint Joseph�s Medical Center offers free screening for high blood pressure every Friday from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. at its Urgent and Specialty Care Center at 75 South Broadway in Yonkers. High blood pressure, known medically as hypertension, can cause strokes, and is associated with diabetes, kidney disease and heart disease.  Because the hypertension has virtually no symptoms, it is called the silent killer.  Hypertension can be treated, sometimes with diet and exercise, but medication is sometimes necessary. There is no need to register for the free screening. For more information, please contact Saint Joseph�s Urgent and Specialty Care Center at (914) 376-7767.
